State of Scams in Kenya - 2026

 Kenya coverThis study of 1,230 Kenyan adults shows that scam exposure is widespread, with 92% of participants encountering a scam in the past year. While 54% say they are confident in recognizing scams, 70% still interacted with a scammer (83% of those exposed). Ultimately, 36% experienced financial or data loss, with only 7% reporting the incident to authorities. Among victims, the impact extends well beyond financial harm, with 77% reporting effects on their mental wellbeing and 51% experiencing repeat scams.
