Discover how uniting communities, businesses, and government agencies is key to effectively combating fraud. In our latest video, Countering Fraud and Scams , A Whole-of-Society of Approach. Nathaniel Gleicher, Meta's Director and Head of Security Policy, delivered a compelling presentation at GASS Asia 2024 in Singapore, focusing on the challenges and strategies of combating scams across multiple platforms. Gleicher emphasized the fragmented nature of scam detection, where different industries often see only a portion of the scam, making comprehensive detection challenging. He highlighted Meta's initiative, the Fraud Intelligence Reciprocal Exchange (FIRE), which collaborates with banks in the UK and Australia to share crucial data about scams, significantly enhancing Meta's ability to identify and block scam networks.

Gleicher discussed the benefits of simple data-sharing, such as website names, which, despite being a minimal piece of information, yield significant returns in combating scams. This approach aims to maximize impact while navigating legal complexities associated with data sharing. He also expressed enthusiasm about potential collaborations with the DNS community to address the misuse of domain names by scammers.

Throughout his speech, Gleicher stressed the importance of cross-industry collaboration, including partnerships with law enforcement and the banking sector, as pivotal in tackling scams effectively. He encouraged the audience to consider potential partnerships and to engage with his team to explore further opportunities for collaboration. Gleicher's presentation underscored the critical role of strategic information sharing and partnership in the broader fight against cyber threats.
